Child’s Play – Cool Design Ideas for Kids Rooms

I have a lot of clients who have children, but it is very rare that I get asked to design a traditional themed children’s room. Our clients want their kids rooms to be as quirky and individual as the rest of their home. The most obvious reason for this is they don’t want a room that will date by the time their mini-me’s grow out of Frozen or Peppa Pig.

– and the very talented Sian Zeng has got this combination spot on. She has designed some rather amazing wallpaper, which have the added element of being magnetic so that your child can interact with the wallpaper and arrange the magnets as they please.

There are some lovely choices including woodlands, flying pigs and dinosaurs, and by just adding this to the room, you can afford to keep the soft furnishings relatively simple.

A new company that we just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE is Silken Favours. If you want something fun, then their “Cosmic Groovy Love” wallpaper and fabric is just the best. I don’t even have children and I want to use it everywhere as it doesn’t fail to put a smile on my face. If you don’t fancy going the whole hog, then their cushions will give you room a quick update, check out their Pegasus Cushion for a bit of girlie, sparkly love!

If you are wanting wallpaper, but worried it may date quickly, then there is a perfect solution to this… REMOVABLE WALLPAPER!!   We have just come across this company, so haven’t trialled it out yet but by all accounts it is pretty fantastic. All you need to do is to paint your wall in an eggshell or satin paint so that when you put the paper up it can also come down again – simple! The company are called Chasing Paper and are based in New York, but they do ship internationally. They have some great graphic prints, so there is plenty to choose from, we even spotted a chalkboard panel in their collection!

Just remember to think of your children’s room as a place to spark their imaginations and – most importantly – have fun!
